Signing in with an email code

How sign-in codes work, how to add two-step verification, and how to change your sign-in email. · 4 min read

Billfetch doesn’t ask you to remember a password. Each time you sign in, we email you a one-time code.

  1. Go to app.billfetch.app.
  2. Enter your email address and select Send code.
  3. Open the email from Billfetch. The subject line starts with your code.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code and select Continue.

The code is valid for 10 minutes and works once. If it has expired, or you can’t find the email, select Send a new code. Check your spam folder if it doesn’t arrive.

If you see “That code is wrong or has expired”, request a new code and use the latest one.

If the email address isn’t registered with Billfetch yet, entering the code creates a new account. You’ll then be asked to create your first business.

Keeping your account safe

  • Only someone with access to your email can sign in, so keep your email account secure.
  • If you get a sign-in code you didn’t ask for, ignore it. Nobody can sign in without it.
  • There’s no separate “forgotten password” step. If you’ve set a password and can’t remember it, sign in with an email code instead.

Two-step verification

For extra protection, you can require a code from an authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator or 1Password) at every sign-in. You turn it on by setting a password, because signing in with a password always uses an authenticator app too.

  1. Open Settings › Profile & sign-in and, next to Password, select Set a password.
  2. Sign out, then on the sign-in screen choose Sign in with password instead and sign in with your new password.
  3. Billfetch asks you to Set up your authenticator. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app, or enter the key shown, then enter the 6-digit code from the app.

From then on, Two-factor (TOTP) under Settings › Profile & sign-in shows On — asked at every sign-in. Whether you sign in with an email code or your password, Billfetch then asks for the code from your authenticator app as well.

Change your sign-in email

  1. Open Settings › Profile & sign-in.
  2. Next to Sign-in email, select Change.
  3. Enter your New email address and select Send confirmation link.
  4. Open the email sent to the new address and select Confirm email address. The link is valid for 24 hours and works once.

Your email changes only after you confirm. You’re then signed out everywhere, and you sign in again with the new address. Your data stays exactly as it was.

If the new address is already used by another Billfetch account, it can’t be used. If the link has expired, request a new one from Settings.

Tip: Use an address you’ll keep and check often — every sign-in code goes there.
