How the dates are worked out
Annual accounts
A private company files its accounts with Companies House 9 months after its accounting reference date. A period of months ends on the corresponding date; if the year end is the last day of a month, the deadline is the last day of the month (a 30 April year end is due on 31 January). First accounts covering more than 12 months are due 21 months after incorporation, or 3 months after the year end if that is later.

Corporation Tax payment
Corporation Tax is due 9 months and 1 day after the end of the accounting period. Companies with taxable profits over £1.5 million pay in instalments instead — this calculator does not cover them. If the date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, your payment must reach HMRC on the last working day before, unless you pay by Faster Payments.

Company Tax Return (CT600)
The return is due 12 months after the end of the accounting period it covers. An accounting period for Corporation Tax can’t be longer than 12 months, so a longer first set of accounts needs two returns. We assume the company started trading when it was incorporated.
Confirmation statement
The first review period runs for 12 months from incorporation; each later one runs 12 months from the last confirmation date. You can file up to 14 days after the review period ends. Your exact dates are on your company’s Companies House page.

VAT return and payment
For quarterly returns, both the return and the payment are usually due 1 calendar month and 7 days after the end of the VAT period. HMRC tells you your periods when you register; the annual accounting scheme and payments on account have different dates.
This calculator is a guide for private limited companies, not tax advice. Your official deadlines are the ones shown in your Companies House and HMRC accounts — check them there. It does not cover public companies, large companies paying Corporation Tax in instalments, changed or shortened accounting periods, or bank holidays.
